El Chaltén
- The trailhead for Laguna Capri begins at the end of Avenida San Martín in El Chaltén, following the same route as the famous Laguna de los Tres trail (Fitz Roy hike). It is well-marked, and the journey can be completed as a half-day hike, perfect for a morning or afternoon adventure.

- The round trip to and from Laguna Capri takes about 3-4 hours, depending on your pace and how long you spend at the lake.

- The trail is generally easy with a few moderate sections, including a short, steady climb in the rst half. It’s suitable for beginners and families with children, as well as experienced hikers looking for a more relaxed trek.

Steady Ascent through Forests and Valleys
The hike begins with a steady uphill walk through beautiful forests of lenga trees and across small valleys, offering plenty of shade and protection from the wind. Along the way, you’ll nd viewpoints that provide your rst glimpses of the surrounding peaks.
Mirador Fitz Roy (Fitz Roy Viewpoint)
About halfway into the hike, you’ll reach the Mirador Fitz Roy, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Mount Fitz Roy (weather permitting). This is a great spot to take a break, enjoy a snack, and capture some photos of the majestic peaks before continuing on to the lake.
Arrival at Laguna Capri
After a relatively gentle ascent, you’ll arrive at Laguna Capri, a pristine alpine lake nestled in a peaceful setting with panoramic views of Mount Fitz Roy in the distance. On clear days, the reections of the towering granite spires in the lake’s crystal-clear waters are absolutely breathtaking. The lakeshore is an ideal spot for a picnic, a rest, or simply soaking in the peaceful surroundings.
Optional: Camping at Laguna Capri
If you’re looking for a longer stay, Laguna Capri is also a popular campsite for trekkers on their way to Laguna de los Tres. The campground is very rustic, only a outhouse for going to the bathroom. Boiling water from the lake is recommended. It’s an incredible spot to wake up with views of Fitz Roy in the morning light (Highly recommended)
Return Journey
After spending time at the lake, you’ll retrace your steps back to El Chaltén. The descent is quick and easy, allowing you to take in the surroundings at a more leisurely pace. It is advised because of loose gravel that you bring trekking poles for the decent. The hike back usually takes about an hour.
