Trail Highlights
Mirador de los Condores Details
Mirador de los Cóndores is El Chaltén’s classic short hike, rewarding you fast with sweeping views of Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, and the Río de las Vueltas valley. The easy trail starts near town; watch for Andean condors riding the thermals—an epic spot for sunrise or sunset photos.
Best time to see Cóndores in El Chalten
Condors ride rising thermals, so activity ramps up late morning through afternoon. Your best window is 10:00–16:00, though sightings are common 8:00–18:00 on sunny/slightly windy days. As light fades they return to roost, so activity drops before dusk. They will fly in from the North.
Why its called Mirador de los Condores
The lookout is named for the Andean condors that regularly soar over the Río de las Vueltas valley. Warm thermalsrising from the cliffs and steppe create ideal updrafts, so you can often watch these massive birds circling overhead—especially from late morning to afternoon.
Mirador de las águilas Details
Mirador de las Águilas is a gentle extension from Mirador de los Cóndores, offering wider, quieter views over Lago Viedma and the Patagonian steppe. From this easy trail near El Chaltén, watch for soaring eagles and capture big-sky scenes of distant peaks and glaciers.
